Alliances
Through the U.S. Department of Energy's INCITE (Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory
and Experiment) program and the Blue Gene Consortium, the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF)
has formed strong alliances with other national laboratories, research institutions, universities, and
industry partners to facilitate breakthrough science and engineering through high-performance computing.
Each year, the INCITE program provides access to supercomputers at the ALCF and other national facilities
to researchers with large-scale, computationally intensive projects in a variety of scientific disciplines.
Furthermore, the program connects them with scientific and technical staff at these facilities. The staff,
who are often scientists with a strong interest in computing, work closely with the INCITE researchers
to maximize the scientific output from the computer runs.
Established jointly by Argonne and IBM, the Blue Gene Consortium provides a forum for technical
information exchange and advanced software projects related to IBM's Blue Gene systems. Today, the
Consortium has 71 member institutions from universities, national laboratories, and industrial
laboratories in the United States and eight other countries.
