Mathematics and Computing of MCS

Valerie Taylor
Seminar

The MCS Division is well recognized for research in the four core areas of extreme computing, data-intensive science, applied mathematics, and science & engineering applications. In this talk I will build upon my administrative and technical experiences to talk about strategies to continue moving forward the business aspects (or what is given as mathematics in the title) and the technical aspects (or what is given as computing in the title) of MCS. With respect to the business aspects, the talk will focus on strengthening collaborations within the national labs, universities, as well as industry and leveraging these collaborations to explore funding opportunities. With respect to the technical strengths, the talk will focus on opportunities in areas such as computer/system architecture and smart schedulers that build upon the significant expertise in MCS, other divisions, and LCF.
