Estimation methods for material parameter identification of piezoelectric transducers require a high sensitivity of the measurable quantity considered. Recently published methods try to increase the sensitivity by optimizing the geometry of the piezoelectric specimen, however, due to many locally optimal points of the target function the optimization does not give the expected results. Using algorithmic differentiation the author investigates the likely origin of these locally optimal points allowing an optimization consistent to expectation.
