For the second year, Intrepid, the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility's (ALCF) IBM Blue Gene/P was ranked #1 on the Graph 500 list. This year, the ALCF submitted results from 131,000 cores, four times the number of cores used in last year's submission, once again securing the #1 spot. The Graph 500 list was announced today at ISC'11 (

Data-intensive supercomputer applications are increasingly important HPC workloads. Other benchmarks and performance metrics fail to address the suitability of supercomputing systems for data-intensive applications. The list ranks supercomputers based on their performance on data-intensive applications ( and thus complements the Top 500 list that is based on the LINPACK benchmark (

Backed by a steering committee of more than 30 international HPC experts from academia, industry, and national laboratories, Graph 500 provides a set of large-scale benchmarks for these applications. Because graph algorithms are a core part of many analytics workloads, these benchmarks help guide the design of hardware architectures and software systems intended to support such applications and help procurements.
