Four ALCF Papers Accepted to SC13 Technical Papers Program

announcements

Four papers from the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility have been selected for the Technical Papers Program at SC13, the premier annual international supercomputing conference, and the leading venue for presenting high-quality original research in high-performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis.

One of the four papers is also a finalist for the ACM Gordon Bell Prize that recognizes outstanding achievement in high-performance computing. The Gordon Bell Prize winner is announced in a special session at the conference.

The SC13 Technical Papers program covers a variety of advanced research topics in HPC spanning nine areas from algorithms to system software. The Gordon Bell award emphasizes innovation in applying HPC to applications in science, engineering, and large-scale data analytics.

The Gordon Bell Prize finalist, “HACC: Extreme Scaling and Performance Across Diverse Architectures,” by Salman Habib, Vitali Morozov, Nicholas Frontiere, Hal Finkel, Adrian Pope, Katrin Heitmann, Kalyan Kumaran, Venkat Vishwanath, Tom Peterka, Joseph A. Insley, David Daniel, Patricia Fasel, and Zarija Lukic, discusses the application of a cosmology code called HACC (Hardware/Hybrid Accelerated Cosmology Code) that has attained unprecedented levels of scalable performance on supercomputers at several national laboratories, including Argonne’s Mira system.

The other ALCF SC13 technical program papers include:

“Kinetic Turbulence Simulations at Extreme Scale on Leadership-Class Systems,” Bei Wang, Stephane Ethier, William Tang, Timothy Williams, Khaled Ibrahim, Kamesh Madduri, Samuel Williams, Leonid Oliker

“Cutting Energy Costs of HPC Systems,” by Xu Yang, Zhou Zhou, Sean Wallace, Zhiling Lan, Wei Tang, Susan Coghlan, Michael E. Papka

“Performance Characterization and Prediction Based Modeling of Collective Two-Phase I/O,” by Sidharth Kumar, Avishek Saha, Venkatram Vishwanath, Philip Carns, John Schmidt, Robert Latham, Giorgio Scorzelli, Hemanth Kolla, Robert Ross, Jackie Chen, Michael E. Papka, Ray Grout, Valerio Pascucci

SC13 will be held November 17-22 in Denver, Colorado.
