Atomic nuclei are strongly interacting, quantum many-body systems that display fascinating properties. Building on previous INCITE research, this project focuses solely on ab initio approaches to nuclear structure and reactions that apply interactions from effective field theories and quantum chromodynamics. The researchers will use advanced quantum many-body methods to accurately describe and predict properties of the atomic nucleus from first principles, including their electroweak transitions and reactions important to both terrestrial experiments and astrophysical environments. The performed calculations will make predictions for and guide new experiments at major DOE facilities, explain observed phenomena, and potentially propel the discovery of new laws of nature.
