Mark Hereld is the ALCF’s Visualization and Data Analysis Manager. He is also a member of the research staff in Argonne’s Mathematics and Computer Science Division and a Senior Fellow of the Computation Institute with a joint appointment at the University of Chicago. His work in understanding simulation on future computer architectures focuses on development and characterization of large neural network models of neocortex, including research in parallel programming models and application performance analysis. Hereld is a principal architect of distributed analysis environments that support collaborative creation of annotated data repositories of multimodal data (audio, video, image, text, numerical) based on web and grid services.
