Imaging in Reciprocal Space: An Overview of Coherent Diffraction and its Applications

Andrew Ulvestad
Seminar

Coherent diffraction imaging has emerged as a robust technique for imaging samples in a number of different ways. It can yield unique insight into defect, strain, and particle shape dynamics in a variety of reactive environments. In this talk, I will give an overview of coherent diffraction and the different variants of the technique (i.e. ptychography, Bragg coherent diffraction, Bragg ptychography, etc.) along with their relative strengths and weaknesses. The prospect of incorporating other imaging modalities will also be discussed. With the advent of ultimate storage rings in the near future, coherent diffraction will play an integral role in the most promising materials science questions.
