IWOCL 2026 marks the 14th anniversary of the annual gathering of the international community of OpenCL and SYCL developers, researchers, implementers, scientists and Khronos Working Group members to share best practice, and to advance the use and evolution of these Khronos open compute languages for programming heterogeneous platforms.
This pioneering workshop has been attracting an international audience of leading academic and industrial experts since 2013 and is the premier forum for the community to present, discuss and learn about applying OpenCL and SYCL to solve computationally-demanding problems across a wide range of application domains.
ALCF’s involvement in IWOCL 2026 spans conference leadership and the technical program, with Brice Videau serving as conference co chair and Thomas Applencourt, Colleen Bertoni, Yasaman Ghadar, and Nevin Liber contributing to the program committee.
ALCF staff will also contribute to the following activities in the technical program:
• Thomas Applencourt will deliver an invited presentation, “SYCL: An Update from the Khronos Working Group”
• Brice Videau, Abhishek Bagusetty, and Alvaro Vazquez Mayagoitia will present “Enabling Vendor-Portable GPU Acceleration for Python-Based Quantum Chemistry with SYCL”
• Brice Videau and Thomas Applencourt will co-lead “Bring Your Own Code: Hands-on Support for OpenCL and SYCL Developers”
• Thomas Applencourt will also contribute to “Lightweight Tracing Interface for SYCL’s USM Model Implemented in AdaptiveCpp”
