Modeling the Milky Way in the Exascale era: challenges and opportunities

Brian O’Shea
Seminar

I provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art in cosmological simulations of galaxy formation, focusing on the largest and most physically accurate simulations and what they can tell us about galaxy formation and evolution. I will also critically examine the future of galaxy formation simulations in the era of 100+ petaflop and exaflop architectures, including missing physics, numerical challenges, and opportunities for improved modeling.
