Singularity on Theta: How to Build and Scale Containers at the ALCF

Taylor Childers, Argonne Leadership Computing Facility
Seminar

ALCF Developer Sessions - February 2019

Overview

The ALCF supports containerized software on its Theta and Cooley systems, and plans to support containers on future systems as well. Containers not only provide an easy way to run the same software across systems with different environments, but their use can also lead to improved performance on shared filesystems. This webinar will discuss the performance benefits of using containerized software and provide instruction on how to produce containers.

About the Speaker

Taylor Childers is a computational scientist in the Data Science Group at the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility, with experience running scientific workflows and applying deep learning at scale on supercomputers. He has been a member of the ATLAS experiment at CERN for ten years and in recent years has been working to scale particle physics simulations on DOE computing resources.
